We need a Proactive Comprehensive Plan
We need a proactive comprehensive plan and make sure it is working
- Protects what we love about Western Sussex County
- Assess our infrastructure and plan how to improve it to entice good paying jobs
- Design housing for our seniors and workers
- Design programs that will partner with the town's Mayor & Councils, non-profits and organizations
- Develop plans that will actually lift our poor out of poverty through work and education and set them up to be homeowners. (Delaware State Housing Authority all ready have programs that could be tailored to achieve this goal)
- Low income senior citizen should not have to pay property tax
- Increase Senior and affordable housing units for current Sussex County citizens
Fairer Playing Field
Western Sussex has the lowest median income and the highest tax rates. No one is sure how the new assessments will change this but District 1 needs a representative that will fight for a fairer playing field.
Senior Homelessness Numbers
The Housing Alliance Delaware made their most recent count of homeless in Delaware on Jan 24, 2024. On that night there were at least 217 people between the age of 55 and 64, and at least 89 people 65 y/o or older, homeless in Delaware. There were 1358 total people in Delaware homeless on this night. The following charts indicate the number of people homeless in each county on that night. Unsheltered people are those who were sleeping literally outside or in a place not meant for human habitation. People in Emergency shelters are those who were in some sort of sheltered location, but did not have a place of their own. People who are doubled up, staying with a friend or family member, or in a hotel are not included in these totals.
Only 20% of homes are affordable to a household making $73,000 a year
